4 definitive reasons to nap more

We’re all tired from work and stressed out during the day, but who has time for taking care of yourself when you have to work and then go out to the latest show downtown? It can be tough to constantly be on the go, but what if you knew that taking a nap would not only make you feel a ton better, but it’s actually better for your mind and body? The idea of taking a nap to be productive isn’t very intuitive, but it’s been shown that naps are great for you in so many ways.

They make you more productive

When you’re groggy and tired, information doesn’t sit quite right in your brain and it’s harder to retain all that you’ve learned. Not only that, but efficacy in terms of speed and productivity really drops when you’re not well rested enough. Studies have shown that sleeping for as little as thirty minutes helps awareness and memory retention, as well as improving productivity.

They make you happier

How many of us are just miserable first thing in the morning, or the first hour or so at work before that cup of coffee? Well, some of us just simply stay that way throughout the entire day – that’s where naps can help! By taking a mid-day nap, you’ll feel fresher, healthier and happier simply because you let your brain reset a bit. It’s worth trying out – anything that boosts mood for free is a great way to feel better all day!

They make you more alert

Do you need to give a presentation? Maybe you need to drive for a few hours and don’t want to yawn a lot? Need to sit through your friends’ interpretive dance event but don’t want to seem rude when you yawn too much? Take a nap beforehand! By doing so, your brain will be fresher and more alert and easily let you handle whatever the day has ahead of you. Imagine having that well-rested feeling before you do something difficult – wouldn’t it be so much easier?

Other cultures have already beaten us to it

Especially the Mediterranean ones – Italy, Spain, and even Mexico and South American countries all get by with little naps during the hot day. Maybe it’s time to take their leads and do what they do! It can’t be a coincidence that so many people around the world take naps during the day, so maybe they have a great idea!

Born on the Prairies, Erin Cardone grew up knowing there was more to life than canola fields and AAA Alberta Angus. So she escaped, living in Europe and Australia, white-knuckling it through plates of calf brains and raw horse meat, and learning languages she can't remember anymore. After a stint as a jaded, skeptical journalist, she changed tack and began writing rather awesome blogs and showing businesses that advertising is dead, so long live social media, with her businesses Legendary Social Media. She now splits her time between various Canadian cities, Costa Rica and wherever else the wind blows.
