Awesome Toronto events happening September 9-11

Today marks the beginning of TIFF 2016, so prepare to endure/enjoy the chaotic energy of downtown Toronto for the next 10 days. This weekend also brings the Canada-wide Junk Food Festival to Toronto, as well as the always awesome Cabbagetown Festival. Just part of the fun happening in Toronto this weekend, September 9-11.

 

Junk Food Festival

Since summer is over basically, it’s time to start putting on your “winter coat.” Best place to do it? The Toronto Junk Food Festival, serving up epic artery cloggers like poutines, churros, and various edibles slathered in cheese. Buy tokens at the event for food.

When to go: Friday, 6 pm; Saturday, noon-1 pm; Sunday, noon-7 pm

Where at? Toronto Star building, 1 Yonge

Tickets: Admission is free, VIP tickets starting at $15 in advance

 

Toronto Bicycle Music Festival

Soak up live music and help use pedal power to produce sound at this 7th instalment of the city’s bike-loving music festival. It starts at Evergreen Brickworks at 11 and moseys along to Prairie Drive Park, ending at 6 pm. Kids are welcome and the music is mobile. Please RSVP here.

When to go: Saturday, 11 am-6 pm

Cabbagetown Festival 2016

The Cabbagetown Festival turns 40 this year, and the 2016 event is bringing in tons of local talent to celebrate, like TDot Batu and a rock choir. There’s a bouncy castle for kids, tons of artisans, food trucks and Cabbagetown businesses putting on events and discounts.

When to go: Saturday, 11 am-10 pm and Sunday, 11 am-7 pm

Where at? Parliament at Carlton

Tickets: Admission is free

 

TIFF 2016

Toronto’s most famous event of the year happens again starting today. The Toronto International Film Festival means celebrity sightings, road closures, TIFF-themed food and drink specials and general mayhem around downtown Toronto. Check out the best of independent (and not) film.
