Barack Obama can’t pronounce Mississauga

It took Barack Obama three tries at pronouncing the word Mississauga, but he still didn’t get it.

At the state dinner toast to Justin Trudeau on March 10, Obama was talking about travelling around Ontario with his family before being elected to office.

“And we went to Burlington and – this is always tough – Mississwagwa. Mississaugwa,” was kind of how it started.

When the whole room started laughing, Obama laughed too, looking across for some help with the pronunciation.

“And then we went to Toronto and Niagara Falls,” he continued. Then, he tried again. “Mississaugwa. I can do that.”

No, you can’t President Obama, no you can’t.

The internet reacted by having a laugh with Obama and didn’t judge the guy too hard, although most people probably agree that the word isn’t really all that hard to say.

Born on the Prairies, Erin Cardone grew up knowing there was more to life than canola fields and AAA Alberta Angus. So she escaped, living in Europe and Australia, white-knuckling it through plates of calf brains and raw horse meat, and learning languages she can't remember anymore. After a stint as a jaded, skeptical journalist, she changed tack and began writing rather awesome blogs and showing businesses that advertising is dead, so long live social media, with her businesses Legendary Social Media. She now splits her time between various Canadian cities, Costa Rica and wherever else the wind blows.
