Best films to catch at TIFF 2015

TIFF is almost here! Here are our picks for the best films to catch this year, with links to trailers so you can get a preview.

Mississippi Grind

With a high-stakes game approaching in New Orleans, a couple of gamblers work it to stack up enough cash to enter. Also, Ryan Reynolds. Enough said.

The Witch

She scared the crap out of audiences at Sundance.

Beasts of No Nation

Starring Idris Elba as an African warlord who abducts young children and brainwashes them into child soldiers, this film’s getting noticed as a possible Academy award winner.

Men & Chicken

Mads Mikkelsen is generally pretty awesome and in this Danish flick, Mikkelsen’s character attends his dad’s funeral, meets up with his brother, and discovers that the dead man wasn’t actually their father, after all.

45 Years

Sure, it may be about a couple about to celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary, but when an ex-girlfriend shows up and complicates things, the party goes off the rails.

Bang Gang

Don’t let the title fool you… into thinking it’s not about what you thought. It’s about teenage lovers who get into some, well, group lovin’ to explore their sexuality. Expect nudity, but also well-developed characters.

Erin Cardone: Born on the Prairies, Erin Cardone grew up knowing there was more to life than canola fields and AAA Alberta Angus. So she escaped, living in Europe and Australia, white-knuckling it through plates of calf brains and raw horse meat, and learning languages she can't remember anymore. After a stint as a jaded, skeptical journalist, she changed tack and began writing rather awesome blogs and showing businesses that advertising is dead, so long live social media, with her businesses Legendary Social Media. She now splits her time between various Canadian cities, Costa Rica and wherever else the wind blows.
