Hey, Check This Out: TIFF Next Wave Film Festival

This weekend, there’s a film festival going on at TIFF that may be of particular interest to the under 25 crowd. If you happen to fit that description, or have a moody teen in your household, listen up: this weekend’s film screenings at the TIFF Bell Lightbox, including a memories of youth themed Freaks and Geeks marathon, are free of charge for young’uns.

Even if you are past your mid-twenties, and thus hopelessly old, you can still pop by and see some interesting films! You’ll just have to pay for your ticket. Welcome to adulthood.

The festival kicks off on Friday with a Battle of the Scores, an event that features six high school bands’ efforts to create original soundtracks for a short film scene. Prizes are awarded based, in part, on audience votes. You could also catch the results of the 24hr Film Challenge, where filmmakers were challenged, in teams, to create a short film in 24 hours. Should be interesting to see what drive, creativity, and caffeine has created.
