Why being single in TO is awesome

Since your last relationship has ended, you’ve done the self-work that let you learn your lessons and become a better person. You’re feeling empowered, in love with yourself, and confident. These conditions have you ripe for romance and you’re lucky to be in the big city because finding your next lover has never been so easy.

We all know an ideal romance story when we hear one. You know, like the one where you spontaneously decided to visit the Toronto Botanical Gardens and find yourself touching noses with a handsome stranger because you both went in to smell the same flower? Right. And you fell helplessly into one another’s arms and never separated. Love at first sight.

Well, love at first sight is a powerful magnetism that absolutely brings lovers together in the city.  It could happen to you when you least expect it! You cross paths with thousands of people on a regular basis and if you are feeling in love with yourself, you will start to attract a lot of people very quickly. Eye contact with people you see on the street or saying hello to that cutie on the TTC might be all you need to meet your next date! The endless stream of new faces means there is no shortage for potential connections.

City dwellers play on the frontier of technology, which is good news for single Torontonians. If you are intentionally looking for a relationship, you will be pleased to hear that online dating is a thriving landscape. It used to be a taboo subject that had people hiding their online dating presence from friends and family, but nowadays it is completely normalized. Check out the big hits, like swipe-right-Tinder, okCupid, and the massively large fishing pool over at PlentyofFish. All these apps are free, too, which means you don’t have to add another bill to your expensive city lifestyle.

Once you have a date, Toronto offers an insane amount of date ideas. Get creative and put together a memorable night out, which shouldn’t be that hard. There are so many parks, events, restaurants, and gorgeous districts to explore that no date needs to be like the last.  This is a luxury that people simply don’t get in smaller towns.

So if you’re single in Toronto, the odds are in your favour.

Erin Cardone: Born on the Prairies, Erin Cardone grew up knowing there was more to life than canola fields and AAA Alberta Angus. So she escaped, living in Europe and Australia, white-knuckling it through plates of calf brains and raw horse meat, and learning languages she can't remember anymore. After a stint as a jaded, skeptical journalist, she changed tack and began writing rather awesome blogs and showing businesses that advertising is dead, so long live social media, with her businesses Legendary Social Media. She now splits her time between various Canadian cities, Costa Rica and wherever else the wind blows.
