Today\u2019s Ikea hack sticks to the succulents theme, but it\u2019s a standing garden rather than a hanging one.<\/p>\n<p>The reason succulents are so awesome for Toronto balconies is they\u2019re a bit hard to kill. So if you don\u2019t give them much TLC, they won\u2019t croak on you too easily.<\/p>\n<h3>The parts. You&#8217;ll need:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ikea.com\/ca\/en\/catalog\/products\/10234862\/\" target=\"_blank\">Rundlig<\/a> serving bowl \u2013 $14.99<\/li>\n<li>3 Wooden peg legs with screws &#8211; about $30 (search \u201cwooden furniture legs with screws\u201d on Etsy or eBay)<\/li>\n<li>3 Nuts to fit over the screws<\/li>\n<li>Drill<\/li>\n<li>Wood glue<\/li>\n<li>Potting soil<\/li>\n<li>Succulents<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Do it.<\/h3>\n<p>Turn the Rundlig bowl upside down and mark out where the legs should go. Make sure the legs won\u2019t touch each other at the bowl side, and ensure they\u2019ll flare out a bit when attached. They should also be even. Use the drill to make a small hole at each mark for the three legs. Use a drill bit that\u2019s about one size smaller than the diameter of the screws from the legs. Also drill a couple of extra holes in the bottom of the bowl for drainage.<\/p>\n<p>Put wood glue on the top of the wood part of each leg so that, once screwed in, the glue will help keep the leg fastened to the bowl. Screw the nuts down onto the screws from inside the bowl. Stand the whole planter up, and fill the bowl with potting soil, then add succulents.
