Also, they\u2019re not something we think of in terms of our apartment decor. Here\u2019s how to DIY your own backlit picture frame using stuff from Ikea, mostly.<\/p>\n<h3>\nThe parts. You&#8217;ll need:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ikea.com\/us\/en\/catalog\/products\/20078050\/\">Ribba<\/a> frame \u2013 $14.99<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ikea.com\/us\/en\/catalog\/products\/50281644\/?query=S%C3%84RDAL+LED+lighting+chain+with+24+lights\">Sardal<\/a> string of lights, 24 \u2013 $7.99<\/li>\n<li>wood glue<\/li>\n<li>some plywood<\/li>\n<li>a photo<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Do it.<\/h3>\n<p>First, take apart the Ribba photo frame by removing the backing from it, and the glass as well. Get the plywood cut so it will attach to the back of the frame, and essentially extend the inside of the frame, backwards. Get it?<\/p>\n<p>OK, with that done, cut the backing of the Ribba frame so it fits inside (or outside) the frame extension you just made, and cut a small corner out. Before attaching the backing, you\u2019re going to put the photo in the frame, then put the lights in there. Now put the backing on, but let the plugin part of the string of lights hang out the back.
