Added amenities are great to have in your Toronto rental apartment, and if you\u2019re lucky enough to have something like in-suite laundry, you should consider yourself among the fortunate few. But there are some features that look great on paper, but in fact aren\u2019t all that useful. Here\u2019s a list of some features that may seem awesome, but are actually just going to collect dust (literally and figuratively) and end up costing you more than you\u2019d otherwise pay in rent.<\/p>\n
It sounds great, doesn\u2019t it? Being able to just go downstairs to the main floor of your building and work out sounds like a dream come true! The problem though is that you\u2019ll rarely ever actually use it. This isn\u2019t to say that most people aren\u2019t interested in getting a bit in shape; it\u2019s more that you\u2019ll end up spending extra rent in monthly equipment and utility costs for something that is very inferior to an actual gym. The real problem is that apartment gyms are often pretty weak in terms of the equipment and space available, and many of us end up paying for a membership at a real gym anyway.<\/p>\n
This is a prominent feature in larger homes, but some apartments also have a little nook in the kitchen to \u201cget work done.\u201d In practice, they end up just being yet another place to store junk and miscellaneous kitchen equipment. Has anyone ever used a kitchen desk to do work? Who doesn\u2019t have a dedicated office space, or even just the coffee table or couch, to get work done?<\/p>\n
Not only are they a bit redundant unless you\u2019re Gordon Ramsay, one of these ovens is going to go unused for the majority of your stay in the apartment. You probably aren\u2019t going to be cooking any huge turkey dinners in your apartment that seats 4 anytime soon, so you simply don\u2019t need the appliance meant for a huge family.<\/p>\n
If you\u2019re living in a sublet or a suburban area rental, you may be able to snag something like this. While it can be cozy and warm, they\u2019re also a lot of work and a lot of clean up to maintain. Not to mention that the simple presence of this feature is easily enough to charge a lot more on rent. If it\u2019s the natural gas variety, say high to a huge gas bill every winter. And natural wood fireplaces will cost you time, the cost of wood, and ash in your lungs. While some may love having a fireplace around, most of the time it\u2019s going to remain unused and sucking valuable dollars from your account.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
