It\u2019s easy to get started on a project \u2013 like our handy Ikea Hacks<\/a> for your apartment \u2013 only for your interest and energy levels to dissipate entirely. From cleaning up your bathroom to \u2013 squirrel! \u2013 organizing bookcases and shelves, it\u2019s important to keep your house in order, not only for guests but for your own mental wellbeing. The tips below are certain to put you on the right track and help you through getting all those lingering chores finally complete!<\/p>\n

Identify the task, and make it specific<\/strong><\/h3>\n

This sounds silly and oversimplified, but you\u2019ll be surprised how much it helps to say, \u201cI need to sort and organize my spice rack\u201d rather than, \u201cI need to clean up the cabinets.\u201d From the outset, if you have a clear, focused goal, it becomes much easier to manage and much easier to execute. You can always add to the plan later, but for now, \u201cPicking the clothes up off the floor and doing the laundry,\u201d is a much better goal than, \u201cclean up the apartment.\u201d<\/p>\n

Keep track of your steps<\/strong><\/h3>\n

It really helps to have some kind of tracking mechanism \u2013 like a chore \u2018to-do\u2019 list, whether that\u2019s a whiteboard, an app or just a piece of paper.\u00a0 By ticking off steps as you complete them, you\u2019ll be much more encouraged to continue and you can feel better about the whole process as you knock out the list one by one!<\/p>\n

Prioritize<\/strong><\/h3>\n

What\u2019s the next step in the productivity quest? Prioritizing the breakdowns you\u2019ve just written! This is where you learn to triage your life \u2013 instead of thinking about all the little things you need to do in your apartment, getting flustered at the scope of it all and give up, think about what the most important parts<\/em> of the plan you just thought up are. If your task is to clean the bathroom, \u201cputting away the toothpaste and hairspray\u201d ranks a bit lower than \u201cclean the toilet.\u201d You need to do both, but if you only get one done, it\u2019s much better to knock out the important ones first!<\/p>\n

Keep it regular<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Most projects take a long time, which is why we don\u2019t really like doing them. Even something as trivial as doing the laundry can be a multi-night affair depending on your schedule, so it\u2019s important to try to do things as regularly as possible. It\u2019s much easier to do laundry when there\u2019s only one load than when there\u2019s six.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
