So, what\u2019s the best place to add some red? That would be the bedroom, my friends.<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s Ikea hack is a toned-down version of one I found for you. The original incorporates LED lighting, but for the life of me, I can\u2019t convince myself that playing with electrical wires is a good idea.<\/p>\n<p>So instead, here\u2019s an Ikea hack that will add some sexy red to the bedroom in your Toronto apartment. This fits a queen size bed. For a king, add two more shelves and a longer 2&#215;2.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #993300;\">The parts. You&#8217;ll need<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ikea.com\/ca\/en\/catalog\/products\/50193732\/\" target=\"_blank\">Lack shelves<\/a> in high-gloss red x6 \u2013 $29.99 each<\/li>\n<li>battens or 2x2s, try <a href=\"https:\/\/www.homedepot.ca\/en\/home\/p.2x2x8-treated-wood.1000414131.html\" target=\"_blank\">this<\/a> \u2013 about $15.00<\/li>\n<li>metal mending plate x 10, try <a href=\"http:\/\/www.homedepot.com\/p\/Everbilt-3-in-Steel-Zinc-Plated-Mending-Plate-4-Pack-13612\/203170049\" target=\"_blank\">this<\/a> \u2013 $29.70<\/li>\n<li>wall anchors<\/li>\n<li>screws<\/li>\n<li>drill<\/li>\n<li>level<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #993300;\">Do it.<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The first step is to make the headboard itself. Attach the six shelves together using the mending plates and screws. Make sure they all align perfectly along their short edge.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding the 2&#215;2 board, you\u2019ll need one board that\u2019s about 50\u201d long, plus at least four that are 2x2x2.<\/p>\n<p>Now create the batten using the 50\u201d 2&#215;2 board. You can use a single piece of it that will run horizontally across the back of the headboard. Attach it to all six shelves, but it shouldn\u2019t run all the way to each end of the headboard.<\/p>\n<p>Next, you\u2019re going to have to attach this thing to the wall. Use the 2x2x2 blocks to do this. The headboard will actually rest on the floor, but the blocks will keep it in place. First, drill very long screws (3\u201d to 4\u201d) all the way through the blocks. Do it in the same location on each block to make the next step easier.<\/p>\n<p>Measure where to place the wall anchors so the blocks will all line up in a straight line behind your bed, and will fit right under the batten you attached to the back of the headboard.
