How to make your apartment smell exotic

Having a beautiful smell to come home to when you enter your apartment is a great treat when you’ve just spent all day inside an air conditioned office or a hot, musty restaurant. The ability to brighten up your home with a variety of smells really gives you a great sense of comfort as well as ability to express yourself in your surroundings!

Use eucalyptus and other herbs

Taking strong smelling herbs and other plants, tying them with twine and hanging them around your house can give it a great, natural scent that permeates throughout your apartment. It’ll almost be like having a spa in your place every day! Spicy, herby scents tend to be very good for your energy levels and will make you feel great just by virtue of being around. Try placing these bundles in the bathroom near the steam of your shower for a real intense experience as well!

Get bouquets of fresh flowers

Whether you pick them yourself or buy them from a nearby florist, adding plants and flowers into your home does a great job of giving it that ‘living and breathing’ feel as well as fill it up with pleasant scents all day long. As an added bonus, plants always look really nice and make great decorations!

Create a Simmer Pot

What’s a simmer pot? Essentially, it’s when you take some very aromatic ingredients, bring them to a moderate heat, then transfer them to a container and then allow them to sit and release their scents into the air. A great guide can be found here and you’ll have a unique and interesting way to add scent to your house!

Try burning incense

Not only is incense very cheap, but it does a great job of filling a space with a very earthy scent. It also doubles as a great way to cover up a different scent – like pet odours, for instance. By burning a stick or two of incense, then opening your windows and allowing fresh air to get in, you can essentially deodorize your entire apartment, all while leaving it with that faint smell of burned wood and spices.

There are many great ways to add some flair to your home and these are just a few! Smells are very important to making a place seem more inviting and welcoming, so give them a try and see how much better you feel in your own house!
