Ikea Hack of the Week: Use Christmas lights to achieve a perfectly Boho bedroom sanctuary

With Christmas just a few weeks away, we found you some inspiration that combines an Ikea hack with a clever use of Christmas lights. Today’s hack helps you bring a cozy bohemian feel into your Toronto apartment’s bedroom using low-cost LED lights. Pair with decor that hangs from the ceiling, loads of pillows and an extra throw, and some moody lighting to perfect the look.

A low bed without a bed frame helps get the right feel, as well.

The parts. You’ll need:

  • Sardal LED string of 24 lights – $13.99 each
  • Strala beige rattan decoration for light string – $8 each
  • Brass-plated cup hooks, try these – $4.21 each

Do it.

Plan out the best location for the lights in your bedroom. In the original blog, they start the string of lights behind the middle of the bedframe, and attach it along the wall at several points, before letting the lights trail down a corner of the room, and run along the base of the curtain.

Do the same for your room, and screw the cup hooks into the wall every two feet or so. Next, attach the Strala decorations to every other light on the string. Plug the string in, and attach it to the hooks. So easy!

Born on the Prairies, Erin Cardone grew up knowing there was more to life than canola fields and AAA Alberta Angus. So she escaped, living in Europe and Australia, white-knuckling it through plates of calf brains and raw horse meat, and learning languages she can't remember anymore. After a stint as a jaded, skeptical journalist, she changed tack and began writing rather awesome blogs and showing businesses that advertising is dead, so long live social media, with her businesses Legendary Social Media. She now splits her time between various Canadian cities, Costa Rica and wherever else the wind blows.
