Millionaires disappointed when Conrad Black’s mansion auction falls through

When the Bridle Path mega mansion of disgraced media magnate Conrad Black came on the market for auction, TO’s richest residents, and some non-TO bidders were chomping at the bit to get in their bid.
Unfortunately for them, someone swooped in and placed a pre-emptive bid, leaving a group of about 20 disappointed millionaires standing around at the Four Seasons hotel amid canapés and wine, without the chance to take their shots at the auction.
The Globe and Mail reported that Mr. Black himself showed his face at the auction but tried to stay out of the limelight.
Conrad Black’s Georgian-style mansion was listed as having a value of $21.8 million leading up to the auction that never was. It has 9 bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, an indoor swimming pool and a coach house.
The home used to belong to Conrad Black’s father, George Montegu Black, who bought it 65 years ago. After Conrad inherited the property, he did a bunch of renos, but according to the Globe’s article, Conrad Black and his wife are now “downsizing.”
