Awesome Ikea Hack of the Week: A light, airy desk for your apartment

Having an awesome desk in your apartment is pretty much a must these days, so how about making one that’s easy and relatively affordable? This Ikea hack pairs the cool, slanted Capita brackets with chests to add storage.

Our version takes a variation on the original, which had some additional crossbars that confused a ton of people. This version is simpler.

The parts. You’ll need

  • Capita brackets 2-pack x 4 – $18.99 each
  • Capita legs adjustable 4-pack x 2 – $15.00 each
  • Linmon table top – $29.00
  • Ivar 3 drawer chest x2 – $135.00 each
  • White paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Screws
  • Drill
  • Screwdrivers

Do it.

Paint the Ivar chest, inside and out, with white paint and let try. Now, screw on the legs, attaching 4 legs to the bottom of each chest. Next, attach the Capita brackets to the top of the Ivar chests. You’ll put two facing out from the outside of each chest, and two angled in from the inside of each chest, for more stability. The brackets get attached to the underside of the Linmon table top. Voila!

Born on the Prairies, Erin Cardone grew up knowing there was more to life than canola fields and AAA Alberta Angus. So she escaped, living in Europe and Australia, white-knuckling it through plates of calf brains and raw horse meat, and learning languages she can't remember anymore. After a stint as a jaded, skeptical journalist, she changed tack and began writing rather awesome blogs and showing businesses that advertising is dead, so long live social media, with her businesses Legendary Social Media. She now splits her time between various Canadian cities, Costa Rica and wherever else the wind blows.
