Awesome Ikea Hack of the Week: A glass block wall made from cheap vases

OK, true talk: I have no idea where you’d ever use this Ikea hack in your Toronto apartment. But maybe your pad is cooler than mine and you’ve always wanted to install a custom glass-block wall, but just needed some inspiration. My friend, today is your day! Do we have an Ikea hack for you.

The parts. You’ll need

  • Rektangel glass vase x like a million – $6.99 each
  • Perfectly transparent, very strong glue
  • Guts

Do it.

First, the bad news. You’ve got to design and measure your glass block wall, and you’re probably going to have to permanently glue vases to your floor. So map it out, plan how many vases you need to buy, and rent a U-Haul to bring your zillions of vases home, hopefully all in one piece.

The easy part is actually building it. You’re just going to lay each vase on its side, and glue them together as you go.

The original blogger who did this project (you should see it – amazing!) painted the vases white on the inside for added opacity and privacy before making the installation.

If you do this, please email us a picture!

Born on the Prairies, Erin Cardone grew up knowing there was more to life than canola fields and AAA Alberta Angus. So she escaped, living in Europe and Australia, white-knuckling it through plates of calf brains and raw horse meat, and learning languages she can't remember anymore. After a stint as a jaded, skeptical journalist, she changed tack and began writing rather awesome blogs and showing businesses that advertising is dead, so long live social media, with her businesses Legendary Social Media. She now splits her time between various Canadian cities, Costa Rica and wherever else the wind blows.
